Durlston Country Park

Elmo, enjoying the sunshine and views

Deb’s walk:

There is a choice of 3 walks in the park with coastal views, wild flower meadows and Victorian trails.

There are trails for children and a natural play area.

The park, castle and cafe are dog-friendly.

Notices are posted when and where cattle may be grazing in the meadows to promote native flowers.

The cafe has amazing views of Durlston Bay and a gallery holds frequent exhibitions. A good place for all.

Length of walk: Several way-marked walks with varied lengths from 1km to 5km

Becca’s walk:

A great location that is super dog friendly throughout, however, be aware that you will need to keep your dog on a short lead / under close control especially if walking the coastal path.

We started by heading to Anvil Point Lighthouse and past Tilly Whim Caves before returning to wander around the castle and woodland. Be warned the terrain can be rough in places on the coastal path, however there are also some great paths that would be suitable for buggies etc.

Length of walk: Anywhere from 1 mile to 15 miles!

Closest food/drink stop and tell us why you recommend it: Seventh Wave cafe serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, Purbeck ice cream, teas, coffees, cold drinks and is dog-friendly. Eat inside or out on the terrace overlooking Durlston Bay.

TIPS

Look out for the Purbeck Stone dog water bowl near the castle entrance, dedicated to Widget, the much-loved and missed ranger's dog and happy greeter of visitors.
