Sherborne Castle and Gardens

Max enjoying the sound therapy of the waterfall

Sherborne Castle was built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594, Capability Brown of course being responsible for the beautiful gardens.

This is an Historic Houses property so members have free access.

Visitors are £14.50 for adult house & garden, child £4, under 5s free. Garden only, adults £10, children as above.

The lakeside walk is stunning, there is a shop and lots of nooks and crannies to explore. Dogs welcome on short leads, assistance dogs only in the house. The old Castle can be seen alongside the lake walk.

You can visit it separately as it belongs to English Heritage. Look on Sherborne Castle website for details. There are also events throughout the year. I did the children's pumpkin walk today!

Length of walk: I usually do about an hour on the circular walk but you could walk for hours if you wanted to.

Closest food/drink stop and tell us why you recommend it: Castle Garden Centre, adjacent to Castle or several food outlets in town, a 10 minute walk. Cold drinks and ice cream are available at reception.

Parking details: Free parking, the exit being through the adjacent Castle Garden Centre, also well worth a visit. Their Christmas grotto is outstanding. Their restaurant is available to Castle visitors with a 5% discount voucher!
